What's the point of a blog?
I'm a housewife sitting here in Finland and this is my first experience with a blog, but so far I feel like I'm at a dinnerparty where 16 people are speaking and nobody is listening. Except perhaps Jeanne. Is the point of a blog to have a dialogue or just to get your point off your chest to fulfil the grade requirement. We've posted 67 blogs and so far there are around 5 comments. Should we try to engage a bit more or is the idea of a blog not to set any rules?

I agree that we should try to engage more, Jen. The blog is not much of a discussion and is also difficult to read. maybe we should post more links and less text from articles? I did a blog for a class once that posed a question at the end of an entry to give people something respond to...? Any other suggestions?
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary. I think a question would be good or otherwise somehow include "engagement" in the class score. Then I think people would reply. But if you ask a question I promise to reply.
ReplyDeleteI personally think we shouldn't post the article at all just the link and then it's our job to convince people to read it. Like a movie review.
Hi, Jen -- thanks for the thought-provoking post. Yes, great idea to try to include more conversation. I do, however, enjoy reading the posts that are examples of what people think are good ledes, good features, etc. They may not be things I would have chosen, but it's cool to see what appeals to others. I think this blog has given me an insight into the diverse interests of people who love journalism. It's cool how no one ever seems to pick the same thing.
