Feature Story w/ interesting spin

We often read stories of people leaving their home countries to venture to the U.S in pursuit of the "American Dream." That is not news. This article, however, decided to focus on a new trend whereby Brazilians who have been living in the U.S have saved money to return to their native Brazil. First, this is a trend that I was not aware of. What makes this piece interesting is that it grabs the reader with a great feature lede:

Gizele Prata sits gloomily inside the villa she built for her mother in this sleepy town in southeastern Brazil, unmoved by the views of verdant hills and the meandering Doce River.

It is the dream house Prata had imagined as she and a sister scrubbed floors in Boston to pay for it, and Prata returned last year intending to stay. But her homecoming has been a deep disappointment: The university where she studies pharmacy is more than an hour away. The long lines and bureaucracy drive her crazy. She cannot find a job - and is anxious that she will never have a real career.

Now she has a new dream: To return to the United States.

The nutgraf is very clear, presise, and to the point! It is a different spin because it adds an unexpected element. Most immigration stories that I have read involve a family moving to the US to make a better life, to send money home, to move the rest of their family to the US. Until now, I had not seen a story of a family making money to move back to their native land, using the money and skills the used in the US to make a better life for themselves, in their own country. I thought that this was a great twist!

It goes one step further however becasue this family- after achieving their goals- is once again strapped and unable to succeed in their homeland and would like to go back to the U.S again. It also brings up others, who have managed to return to the US a second time, however illegally.

Thoughts on this story? I also like how the writer did not editorialize about her views on immigration. It was a straight news/feature story.
