Paper or Plastic?

As journalists we are worn thin by the debate between print and online materials. In its basic form, the debate includes how stationary and monogrammed notecards have become rather outdated in the move to a faster, immediately gratifying digital world.

This feature lede article on nytimes.com (Home & Garden Section) talks about how personal notes and Thank You cards are easily (and conveniently) swapped for e-cards and emails "Sent from my iPhone" or "Sent from my Blackberry."

The nutgraf doesn't come until much later (so the feel of the article is a bit fluffy for my taste), but it is an interesting look at other ways print and paper are becoming old-school as custom stationary is shiny, animated, and digital outside of the newspaper world.

As for me, I still like getting the card in the mail. There's something so personal and genuine about it (but I admit that I've sent my fair share of e-cards).
