This just in!
This short article was posted just 15 minutes ago and only has one quote from former governor Palin:
“We know we can effect positive change outside of government,” she said in making the announcement.
Brief and to the point, the quote's implications are apparent to the reader who's aware of Palin's role during the past election and in the public eye.
The writer, rushing to break the story and limited by a lack of complete information about the announcement, chose an appropriate and concise quotation.
For the reader, the quote focuses attention on Palin's continuing ability to affect government, and arguably her recognition of the negative changes she has caused within it. Palin's choice of "we" makes you think she's subtly admonishing herself for trouble caused and gracefully takes her leave to "be able to travel around the country more freely and not have to deal with the constraints of being a governor."
You can't help but think of all the drama caused by her personal family matters even when she fails to mention them in her quotation or the writer in his article. Here, the quotation becomes an important recollection of the positive, and more importantly, the negative making you think twice.
